Here is the exclusive interview giving a glimpse into how Jessica Faulkner makes women’s clothing for all occasions.
Who are your fashion heroes or muses?
Kate Moss is a favorite muse along with Keira Knightly and Alexa Chung. Martin Margiela is a fashion hero because the father of deconstruction, experimenting with proportions and recycling fashion. He is a designer’s designer.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Inspiration comes from a variety of everywhere. From women on the streets to travel experiences and fashion history.
What are the challenges you face for your line?
Finding a balance between my creativity and what people will actually respond to in stores.
Could you describe the woman that you design for?
The woman we design for is a woman who is driven, stylish, and successful, but someone a little edgy who also doesn’t take herself so seriously.
What do you believe makes a quality article of clothing?
A quality article of clothing is something that can be worn in many different ways for many different seasons. We have a few great jackets in our Fall 2013 collection that are edgy, yet timeless and classic like the Lauren Jacket or the Brooke Jacket.
What does your brand specialize in?
We specialize in women’s contemporary clothing which includes: tops, bottoms, dresses, and coats.
How would you define the style your line exemplifies?
American sportswear meets Global Chic. Edgy, polished, clean, versatile and vintage.
What are some of your brands accomplishments so far?
Accomplishments include being voted second place by the audience at FWSD, being published in California Apparel News, growing our business, and defining our brand more clearly.
